Double Glazing
What is double glazing
Double Glazing is the process of putting two panes of glass together to create an insulated glass unit (IGU).
What is retro double glazing
‘Retro’ double glazing is the industry term for placing new IGUs into your existing window frames.
Features and benefits
Thermal - Prevents heat loss
Your house could be losing as much as 40% of its total heat loss (THL) through your existing single glazed windows and doors. Standard double glazing reduces your heat loss by 52%. Adding Argon gas will increase this to 59% and adding Low E glass with Argon gas will increase this to 72%.
Acoustic - reduces outside noise
Standard double glazing will achieve around 20% Perceived Sound Reduction (PSR). If noise reduction is your priority, we recommend using Silence glass in your double glazing, as this will give you 60% PSR.
UV - protection from the sun
Double glazing can reduce 99% of UV light when certain types of laminated glass are used. Tinted glass is another way of reducing UV light, whilst also giving the added benefit of privacy.

IGU Performance and options.
There is no 'one solution' when it comes to double glazing. Different glass types determine the overall IGU performance benefits, be that helping to reduce noise, cut out UV, or retain warmth in your home or building.

All our double glazed units are made up from 3 major components; glass, spacer and a cavity filler.
